Saluran, a fixed fishing gear

Saluran (filter net) is a fixed-fishing gear made of bamboo posts and netting panels forming a conical or pointed bag. The saluran’s mouth is usually facing the current flow for the fish to get in. The outermost end of the net bag is called codend that functions as the trapping part where fish is caught. Anchors are attached at both ends of the ground line of the net to keep it properly opened for the fish to easily come in. To operate it, the conical net is dropped for an overnight and then hauled. This fishing gear targets species that are carried along by tidal currents; therefore, the success of fishing operation is highly dependent on tidal cycles.
