Fisher folks in the coastal community of Pilar, Capiz, believe that if their boat is placed with a certain plant called "kusol," that boat will never have good harvest of fish forever. For them, kusol is a type of "Panubol," which drives good luck away. Panubol comes from the root word "subol," meaning to drive away. In this picture, Dr. Presminda Benliro, discusses what a "kusol" plant looks like and how it affects the harvest of the fisher folks, a claim confirmed by the fishermen we interviewed in the community.
