The fishermen in Pilar, Capiz, believe that certain plants bring good luck and attract fish. One of them is the tanglad. Before "pailig" (going to the sea), they would harvest lemongrass (tanglad), which they would tie and apply on the different parts of the boat. These days, they only do this before launching a boat to the sea for the first time. Now, here's an interesting story: you cannot ask permission from the household or the owner of the plant when doing the pangalap. According to our key informant, she remembered they used have so many lemon grass planted outside their home and she recalled fishermen picking the leaves because they applied it on their boats before heading to the sea for good luck.
