Pamulaw, the Way to Catch Mackerel


Fisher folks in Masbate would go the sea to catch a certain fish at night. The fish is called "bulaw" and they call this practice as "pamulaw." They usually bring a lantern ("parol"), which they float on the sea to light up and attract the fish (see the last photo below). Different kinds of nets are used depending and the harvested fish would also vary. In the third photo, you will see a dark net, which is used to catch "bulaw" (mackerel).
