The fishing vessel surambaw has many functions. In the day time, the fisher folks in the fishing communities of Libas, Barra and Dayao, Roxas City, would perform "pagataw," a fishing method using the surambaw to harvest smaller fish, like gisaw. At night time, they would do the "igaw," which is a practiced involving catching and harvesting fish with the lights attached to the surambaw's inclined bamboo pole to attrach fish.
